Theft & Damage Excess Protection explained

What is Deductible/Excess? The most common insurance package, a car rental company usually offers is the collision damage waiver (CDW) which includes an excess/deductible. With CDW it limits the driver's liability/responsibility up to a certain amount (EXCESS/ DEDUCTIBLE) should damage to the rental vehicle occur (if the driver is found to be liable for the accident) or theft to the whole rental vehicle. By returning the rental vehicle in the exact condition as you received it, the deposit will be released/refunded to the driver’s credit card. EconomyCarRentals strongly recommends that you check the car before driving off. Double-check if there is any existing damage marked on the contract. We also suggest taking pictures of the car before leaving.
Example: Your booking, in the terms it says the excess/deductible amount is 1000 EUR. At the rental desk, the main driver has to leave a deposit (in this case 1000 EUR) with his/her credit card. Should you have accidental damage or theft, the rental company will charge you an amount of up to 1000 EUR. The remaining amount is covered by the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). Please note that the amount of excess/deductible depends on the car category and the car rental company. You will find this amount in the Terms & Price details of each offer you can find on our website.
