Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and the largest city of western Austria. It is an important center of winter sports, business and cultural center. As a academic centre, it also influences the areas of the Italian South Tyrol. The city of Innsbruck has around 130 thousand. inhabitants (the whole agglomeration – around 200 thousand.). It lies at an altitude of 574 m above sea level. The word bruck comes from the German word Brücke meaning "bridge" which leads to "the bridge over the Inn".
The airport that serves the city is the Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport (INN), located approximately 4 km / 2.5 miles from the city centre.
